Türkiye is going through an unparalleled tragedy following the twin earthquakes that hit the southeastern part of the country. The earthquakes have caused the loss of loved ones, homes, and savings for millions of people. In this context, ATA-DC - in partnership with the Turkish Embassy in Washington, DC, and Bridge to Turkiye Fund (BTF) - cordially invites you to a special international women's day event, raising funds and awareness to support the education of girls who are affected by the recent earthquakes in Turkiye. Date: Thursday, March 9, 2023 Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Location: Turkish Embassy Residence,1606 23rd St. NW, Washington, DC 20036 Tickets: $100* minimum donation recommended - this is a catered event All proceeds will benefit ATA-DC/BTF "Save a Girl, Save a Community Fund" to support the education of girls, whose lives have been affected by the recent earthquakes. BTF is a US-based, volunteer-run, charitable non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. ATA-DC International Women’s Day Award Recipient/Keynote Speaker*: Ms. Dilek Livaneli Village Elementary School Teacher, School Administrator, Education Ambassador, Author, Recipient of European International Women's Leadership Award 2019 by the European Parliament, Founder of Bir Dilek Yetmez (A single wish is not enough) Project *The keynote speech will be delivered in Turkish. ********** Dilek Livaneli is a teacher, educator, education ambassador, and author of "A Single Wish Is Not Enough". Livaneli's extraordinary work as a village school teacher and social, cultural, and economic changemaker since 2002 was made into a documentary film. She was awarded the European Parliament's International Leading Women Award and recognized among the eight most inspiring women in the world in 2019. "A Single Wish Is Not Enough" Project was nominated for the 2018 UNESCO awards by the General Directorate of the European Union, and Livaneli delivered a speech at the European Parliament. Livaneli is the first Turkish educator to be nominated for the Nobel Global Teacher Prize. She serves as an Education Ambassador for the Varkey Gems Foundation, a leading global education foundation whose honorary President is former US President Bill Clinton. In 2012, she received the Turkish Ministry of National Education's Teacher of the Year Award and has mentored thousands of new-graduate and seasoned teachers since. Livaneli also received the Ataturk Society of America's Great Atatürk Youth Award, and the Republic Achievement Award in the U.K. Livaneli has a B.A in education from the Gazi University and a master's degree from Amasya University Social Sciences Institute. Currently, she is working on a project at the International School of London, developing a Turkish education program for Turkish children living abroad. Dilek continues to inspire all teachers and policymakers in Turkiye and abroad. ********** This event is open to everyone.
