Past and Present: Working towards Woodlawn’s Future Saturday, March 18, 2023 Attend this year’s Summit to express your vision and learn how quality-of-life plans (past and present) will shape Woodlawn’s future as a community. ------------------ PLENARY + WORKSHOPS ------------------ ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Procurement and Potential Contracting Opportunities In this session you will learn about procurement opportunities from Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development (DPD) and Department of Housing (DOH) for Woodlawn. SAFETY: Effective Policing in an Ever-Changing Community Given the safety challenges in the City and surrounding south side communities, this session is designed to discuss initiatives and strategies for effective policing in an ever-changing community. What are the strategies being used by Chicago Police Department (CPD) for effective policing? The University of Chicago Police Department’s (UCPD) coverage extends to 64th Street, what is their involvement to assist CPD? This will also be an opportunity for CPD and UCPD to share their strategies to keep the community safe during the summer season and beyond. HOUSING: Reclaiming the Woodlawn Community Through Homeownership; New and Existing Sponsored by Associated Bank, this session will guide you through various home programs available to help you purchase your dream home. Learn about loan products and grants. The Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi will share valuable information about property taxes, appeals and exemptions. SUSTAINABILITY: Chicago 2030! How Chicago Became a City Of Villages; Sparking the Sustainable Square Mile in West Woodlawn and Beyond Our vision at Blacks in Green (BIG) is self-sustaining, black communities everywhere. With our Sustainable Square Mile system, BIG is reinventing the walk-to-work, walk-to-shop, walk-to-learn, walk-to-play village where African Americans own the businesses, own the land, and live the conservation lifestyle – the beautiful life! Learn the Sustainable Square Mile steps in real-time as we collaborate with our Cleveland Cohort to expand to their city.
