Description

Fame Preservation Group, Inc. will be hosting our first ever Spring Banquet social event at Rowan Public Library's East Branch at 110 Broad Street, Rockwell, NC 28138 in their downstairs meeting hall where our organization will be providing catering and public discussion about the future of our historical society and the mission of preservation the FPG intends to uphold. Our administration welcomes anyone who loves history, cherishes civic work and thrives for historical preservation in all retrospects as we move into this new year of 2023. Our organization would especially like to invite like-minded historical societies to attend this event as well so that we could better interact with already well-established organizations and entities that have been in the business of preservation longer than we have in recent years. Since our incorporation as a State-level nonprofit, the FPG has voluntarily maintained the presence and preservation of the historical context of Old Lutheran and Old English Cemeteries in Salisbury, NC, with maintenance to headstones, the displaying of memorial flags at markers, ceremonial events, historical tours and we have maintained a sense of community involvement while interacting with the City of Salisbury and other entities which have encountered our work. The mission of Fame Preservation Group, Inc. is to maintain and educate the public of the historical context of the Fame Confederate Monument, Gloria Victis, of its symbolic representation to thousands of Confederate Veterans of Rowan County buried at home and abroad from their service in the War Between the States for future generations to cherish. In recent development, our primary fundraising goal as an organization currently stands at financing, commissioning and obtaining a Civil War Trails, Inc. historical marker in order for the Historical Preservation Commission (HPC) of the City of Salisbury could have it installed within Old Lutheran Cemetery in the vicinity of the Confederate Monument there in order to capture the context of the roughly 192 Confederate Veterans buried there from previous treatment at the formerly nearby Rowan Wayside Hospital; many whom are buried in unmarked graves. We hope to have a successful turnout from both general attendance and the presence of notable representatives from existing historical societies like Historic Salisbury Foundation, Rowan Museum, The American Legion and others as well. Admission for this event will be free for attendance however we will be hosting a silent auction for items that will be provided and displayed with beginning bidding prices and pages for entry. All proceedings raised will go towards our efforts of obtaining the Civil War Trails, Inc., marker, however the primary goal of this event is to meet and greet like-minded individuals and organizations in order to build stronger relationships within the community at large. Thank you.
