Description

Sunsphere Cadet Squadron is a recently formed Civil Air Patrol unit that meets weekly in the Bookwalter United Methodist Church on Thursday evenings from 6.30 to 9.00 pm. This open house will give young people aged 12-18 and their elders, a chance to learn about the many opportunities available to cadets. Established in 1941, six days before Pearl Harbor, CAP is America’s premier public service organization, tasked by Act of Congress with carrying out emergency services missions, providing aerospace education, and transforming youth into dynamic Americans and aerospace leaders through participation in the CAP cadet program. As the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, CAP’s citizen volunteers are authorized to wear a version of the USAF uniform, although there is no military obligation. We aim to showcase the opportunities available to cadets to learn about Leadership, Aerospace, Fitness, and Character Development through the practice of CAP's core values of Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Respect. Those cadets willing to study will get opportunities to fly in both powered aircraft and gliders, and perhaps to earn their pilot’s license. In addition to the weekly program, cadets are eligible to attend summer encampments as well as familiarization courses in military, aerospace, and other STEM-related career fields. Older cadets can compete for scholarships to flight school or college, and even the chance for overseas travel with the International Air Cadet Exchange program. Although attendance at this open house is free, we ask each family to complete a registration form so that we can know how many guests to expect.
