Beyond the Beat is an uplifting documentary about the power of creativity to inspire hope and healing. Be the first to see the film and stick around for an arts-infused after-party! DETAILS: The film will begin at 7 pm and lasts about an hour. Get to the Independent Picture House at 6:30pm for photo opportunities and to hang with the filmmakers. Following the film, take part in a Q&A with the directors and learn about the improbable journey to finish this project. After the film, join us for an arts party that reflects the uplifting, creative energy of Beyond the Beat. This portion of the event is hosted at The Charlotte Art League (attached to the theatre). Your ticket includes both the screening and the art party (drinks and small bites provided). We can’t wait to see you all soon! After party runs from 8:30-10:30 pm. FILM SYNOPSIS After decades of civil war in Northern Uganda, three best friends start a creative arts festival to inspire hope for a better future. Using therapeutic tools like yoga, painting, dance, and music – the event is sparking a movement of hope in Northern Uganda. The story of its improbable existence evokes a larger conversation on "art" and its unique potential to heal and transform communities worldwide. More than just a film, Beyond the Beat is fueling a movement of people transforming their pain into art. LARGER IMPACT Beyond the Beat aims to create tangible impact in the region in which its filmed. At the premiere, you'll have an opportunity to purchase merch that will go directly back to supporting the characters you meet in the film. Any additional profits from this event will go towards film festival submissions and helping Beyond the Beat reach a larger audience.
