Explore writing about family in fiction with author Anne Griffin.
Bestselling author Anne Griffin loves to write novels set in families; she can’t imagine not doing it. Where else is there such wealth of material? For her, it all stems from what is hidden: hidden secrets and hidden feelings that have weighed people down for years, and now, for whatever reason, are finally drawn out into the light.
In this workshop we will explore, amongst other things, the importance of good character development, the power of dialogue, what’s said and not said, and how to allow conflict to play out. We will look at examples of how this is achieved in the works of some great national and international novelists.
Time allowing, we may even attempt a writing exercise to stretch those writing muscles; participation is not compulsory, but very welcome.
