Maine Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor (formerly Museum LA) is working to expand the depth and breadth of voices represented through its programming and exhibitions. It’s newest exhibition, Who We Are. Who Are We, is a project of Dr. Marcelle Medford that captures the oral histories of historically excluded communities that live and work in Maine.
With a career-long research interest in Black placemaking across the U.S., Professor Marcelle Medford – Bates, aims for this exhibition to shine a light on Black and Brown individuals born and raised in Maine as well as the varied groups of people who have chosen the Pine Tree State. This first installment of oral histories is a starting point for highlighting the stories and identities that make up our community.
Please join us in celebration! View the exhibit. Share your own story of placemaking and community building in the story booth. Network with other BIPOC professionals in the Lewiston-Auburn area.
