Description

Did you know that colon cancer is a common cancer in men and women, and is on the rise in young adults? Fortunately, colon cancer is preventable, and eating a diet that supports colon health is one of the most important things you can do to avoid it! Join Augusta Health Digestive Wellness Center gastroenterologists Christina Tennyson and Savita Srivasava, in partnership with Augusta Health dietician, culinary chef, and Allegheny Mountain Institute farmer Hannah Dorrel to learn the art and science of eating right to kick cancer's butt. In this two-hour workshop, we'll demonstrate how to prepare a nutritious meal featuring dishes like: white bean dip, spinach salad, sweet potato tacos, and chocolate pudding. You'll discover how these foods promote colon health and even have the chance to taste how delicious healthy, plant-based eating can be. Culinary medicine is an emerging field that bridges medical care, nutrition education, and the culinary arts. Through our programs in culinary medicine, we seek to learn the art of cooking for health, and aspire to promote mindful eating, cultivate awareness of where our food comes from, enjoy the process of cooking for living and feeling well, and and embrace food as a connection between humans.
