Description

The Passover story tells us of how the Israelites crossed the Red Sea – bravely, by taking that first step into the water. But just because the Israelites escaped Egypt does not mean their trials are over. So, too, just as we have made it through the worst – we hope – of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still challenges that working people face. Only by joining together can we find liberation in our own time. Our Labor Seder is a unique interfaith event where Jewish community leaders, labor leaders, elected officials, and community activists build bridges that enable us all to pursue justice with greater strength and resolve. We will connect the Passover story with struggles for workplace justice today at our Seder. The Labor Seder highlights issues we face in Massachusetts and the efforts being made to address them. It inspires participants to act to bring the voice of the Jewish community to bear in support of workplace equity. This year we will be honoring Rabbi Elaine Zecher of Temple Israel in recognition of her many years of bold, inspiring and justice oriented leadership, and in gratitude for her gracious partnership with the NEJLC. We also honor Ed Kelly, General President of the IAFF, for his dedication to firefighters and all working people, in Massachusetts and throughout the country.
