From its natural beauty to its intriguing history, there’s a lot to love about Indiana Dunes National Park. Get to know the area better at a program on May 5, preceding our Logs to Lustrons TOUR on May 6.
Indiana Landmarks and the Indiana Dunes National Park (IDNP) team up to present an illustrated talk highlighting the park’s history and preservation, including a deeper look at the heritage of the Calumet Region.
More than 1.6 million people call the Calumet region home. From the Indiana Dunes National Park through Southeast Chicago, the Calumet landscape is filled with a compelling mix of housing sizes and styles that include architecturally renowned planned communities, single-family dwellings, public housing developments, and a farm that served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Join Madeleine Tudor, co-curator of the Calumet Voices, National Stories exhibition at the Field Museum, as she investigates how the diversity of dwellings has shaped the lives of residents throughout the region. Showcasing examples from the exhibition, she will share stories of local innovation and heritage stewardship that connect past and present, toward a sustainable future.
If you’re taking the tour too, you may want to spend the night in the area. You’ll find info on overnight accommodations HERE.
