Join us at the Forge for World IA Day, March 4th!The team at Experiencing UX is now bringing back World IA Day right here in Des Moines! This global event brings together information architects, designers, researchers, and other professionals to share their knowledge, experience, and insights about information architecture and user experience. This will be our first in-person event since 2020, held at The Forge in downtown Des Moines. We invite you to join us at the Forge at 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 4th. We are finalizing an amazing line up of speakers for the event with a Keynote by Scott Kubie. We have a mix of in-person and remote presenters. Lunch will be provided. Connect and network with other UX and IA professionals here in Des Moines and the Midwest. The event is open to anyone who is interested in IA, UX, Product or Technology. We look forward to seeing you there! The World Information Architecture Association (WIAA) hosts World IA Day and supports global initiatives to spread the information architecture practice. WIAA brings together local communities and runs the largest global conference about information architecture. Global Theme: Orientation and Wayfinding Wayfinding is a fundamental human activity and an integral outcome of good information architecture. It helps us to know where we are and to recognize where we could go. Having many choices can be an opportunity, but it can also cause anxiety. Therefore, we are in need of wayfinding systems that support us on our journey. What is World IA Day? World IA Day is the one day a year the community gets together for a global conference, curated and organized by volunteers around the world, to host and encourage conversations about information architecture. First established in 2012 as a one-day annual event held in dozens of locations across the world, World IA Day was hosted by the Information Architecture Institute (IA Institute). It was a vision attributed to Abby Covert and Dan Klyn to create a one-day celebration focused on advancing the practice and education of information architecture. The key here was to create something that was for the community. Their hope was to empower emerging leaders and further the discourse of a growing and, at the time, contentious discipline. Today, it continues to be the flagship global event in the community. What is Information Architecture? Definitions for "information architecture" are a constant conversation topic in this community. For a discipline focused on making things easy to understand, Information Architecture certainly does not make that easy. The World Information Architecture Association invites open conversations about "What is Information Architecture" to sustain an ecosystem of learning and collaboration. Information architecture gives us ways to understand, filter out the noise, and focus on the important parts to help us get our bearings. It creates environments that are accessible, sustainable, and extensible. All in all, information architecture empowers us to find our own way in our own time by considering our experiences, expectations, and situations.
