Description

Let's celebrate International Women's Day with a group bike ride on Riverwalk and the Guild Trail. Why? Because the bicycle paved the way for women's rights and emancipation by giving us the freedom to move about. Women’s rights activist, Susan B. Anthony, said it best: "Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel — the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood." We couldn't agree more and want to celebrate our womanhood and freedom with a group ride. From The San Francisco Call in 1895: Where are all the women on wheels going? Is there a grand rendezvous somewhere toward which they are all headed and where they will some time hold a meet that will cause this wobbly old world to wake up and readjust itself? Yes! Let's rendezvous at Naked River Brewing at 5:30 PM (wheels down by 6:00 PM) and cause this wobbly world to wake up and readjust itself. You'll choose your own adventure and either enjoy a beginner friendly ride along the Riverwalk with Kat the Bike Lady from White Oak Bicycle Co-op, or an intermediate ride grinding up the Guild with SORBA membership director, Sunshine. No rider will be left behind. The Velo Vixens are hosting a running event that night if going by two feet is more your style. The more the merrier, let's gather in force! Stay for food and cold drinks after to socialize with new friends. We invite you to come dressed as your favorite famous female - bonus points if you choose Susan B. Anthony, or come dressed as you are. This ride is open to anyone who identifies as female and enjoys riding bikes with other rad women. No rider will be left behind. Helmets and lights are required to participate as we will be riding back after sunset. Don't have a bike? No problem. Borrow one from White Oak Bicycle Co-op (select at checkout). A signed waiver will be required to participate and you must pre-register if you need to borrow a bicycle.
