WHEN: Saturday, April 29th, 1pm-8pm. Doors at 12:30pm, please arrive then WHERE: Perennial Yoga, 5500 E. Cheryl Parkway, Ste 101 Fitchburg, WI 53711 WHAT IS INCLUDED IN YOUR TICKET: The 2023 Isthmus Handpan Gathering will consist of 2 masterclasses, open time, dinner & a handpan concert: The Beginner/intermediate Masterclass: We will work through some hands-on progressions for dexterity and independence between the hands. We will discuss song structure, basic music theory and we will end with some improvised duets. The Advanced Masterclass: We will begin with some advanced technique, thinking about the pathways of our hands when we play. From there we will workshop Dynamics, Composition and Flow, diving deep into elements that make compositions unique and interesting to the listener. We will end with an exploration of different world rhythms and how those can be used to create something new and exciting in your playing. After the masterclasses, there will be free time to take a handpan and play out in the garden, explore some of the masterclass ideas, or talk with other handpan players and bring our community together. Supper is included in the event and will be catered in by Banzo, a local Mediterranean restaurant in Madison WI. This will include: pita, falafel, chicken, majadra rice, homemade hummus, chopped salad, and an assortment of sauces. (If you have dietary restrictions, let us know, we will do our best to accommodate and if we can't, we may be able to adjust your ticket price.) Enjoy Music during dinner from our local handpan community members. We will close out the event with an evening concert of handpan music. Including the first live premier of our Isthmus Handpan Percussion Ensemble. *Special guest performers include: Jeremy Arndt from Michigan, Ethan Patterson & Maxwell Edison Johnson from Illionis, and many more local players TBA soon! The event will take place at Perennial Yoga Studio in Fitchburg. Their building includes three different yoga rooms, a cafe, and it overlooks a beautiful garden area which can be viewed from the big picture windows at the front of the room. Our event will be in the Earth room with access to the Cafe, Garden, and Air rooms. We're incredibly excited to hold our event here this year! 12:30pm arrive & check in 1pm-2pm Masterclass #1 2pm-3pm Break/open time 3pm-4pm Masterclass #2 4pm-5:45pm Food, Mingle, jam, meet others! 6pm-8pm Handpan Concert FAQs  What can I bring into the event? If you have a handpan, you can bring that!  If you don't, we will provide a limited number of handpans at the event. Please bring a handpan stand if you have one & prefer to use it. I can't attend the entire gathering, but I want to come for part of it. Is this okay ? We are happy if you attend all or any of the gathering. Right now there is only a limited number of tickets so it's best to reserve your full-day spot if you want to attend during the day. Depending on capacity, we might sell a limited number of tickets to only the concert portion at a date closer to the event. Check with us at [email protected] Can I take a handpan outside and play during break time? Absolutely! We are free to use the garden if the weather is nice and we would love to have you take one and get to know it or play around with some of the things we discuss in the masterclasses. Can I wear shoes in the Yoga Studio? Shoes are not allowed in the yoga studio for any reason! This is a special type of flooring and since people often lay down for yoga classes, we don't want to track any dirt or debris in from outside. What is the parking situation like? There is a plenty of free parking available on site with space for all attendees. Why is this a ticketed event? We choose to keep our first few gatherings free events to inspire and engage our community. We are now choosing to ticket this event, simply to cover the cost of hosting.
