Program description: This session will offer a show, share, and practice style with real scenarios. Much of what we'll learn will be a culture shift and mindset change. We'll chat about saying "no" or "not yet" to donors and why it's ok to do so. We'll also talk about those higher-need donors and how to deal directly with off-mission requests. Moving away from transactional exchanges, we will learn together, from each other, and build relationships - practicing for your next interaction with a major donor. I've built a strong system of relationship-focused fundraising that works better as a result of many years and many mentors in my career. My presentation style is comfortable and relaxed, an easy place to learn and make mistakes. The experiential style will include participants playing the role of a donor, staff member, and/or board or CEO role. Cards will be handed out offering insights to each participant on their roles, the network opportunities they possess or don't possess, and how they might work with someone in the room. I believe this session will result in a clear understanding of how relationships result in long-term funding and a strong growth pattern for a nonprofit organization. Through showing, practicing, and evaluating the experience together, we will utilize our senses to enforce the learning experience.
