Commercial Building Fires: why do they kill firefighters? A program that looks at non-residential buildings and why fires in these buildings are so deadly to the fire service, and what we can do to prevent more deaths. Chief Erickson is a 40-year veteran of the fire service. He has served as a Chief Officer in five departments ranging in size from 24 to 52 firefighters, both career and combination. He holds a BS in Fire Administration and an AS in Fire Science from Providence College. He is a graduate of the UMASS Chief Fire Officer training program, the Maryland Fire Rescue Command and Staff program, and has attended the National Fire Academy numerous times. He has taught at the NH Fire Academy, Vermont Firefighter Association, Lakes Region Mutual Aid, numerous fire departments, and Lakes Region Community College. He has fought and commanded hundreds of fires during his career.
