In partnership with Justice Arts Coalition (JAC), this ArtLinks event will provide participants with an opportunities to view artwork by incarcerated artists in JAC’s network and share their feedback, reflections, and encouragement with the artists through hand-written letters, which JAC sends off to the artists. Time and time again, JAC hears how much it means to the artists to know that folks on the outside are seeing, appreciating, and being impacted by their work. Knowing that you took time to engage with their work, and that it spoke to you, brings them hope and validation and inspires them to keep creating. We want all of the artists who have entrusted their work to JAC to know how much they matter, so we hope that you will join us for this ArtLinks event!
The event will include an artist talk with Carole Alden. Carole was born 1960 in Orleans, France. The mother of 5 children, she is a self-taught artist and had an extensive career in fiber art sculptures before being incarcerated in 2006. Prior to release in 2019, she made contact with the Justice Arts Coalition, and this support opened up a new world of opportunity for her to take a visceral trauma and turn it into a vehicle for communication, hope and healing. Through JAC, Carole was able to began speaking and sharing her work for a variety of organizations within weeks of release, despite the constraints of parole.
