The Art of Dissent is a five-week community workshop series that helps artists and community creatives envision the arts as an integrated strategy for radical transformation. This includes an examination of radical vision and the connection between the arts and the power of social movements. This is an interactive series that allows for collective visioning with sessions that involve creation and collaboration among the participants.
This series will explore how to integrate artistic and creative talents (vision, innovation, analysis, etc.) into community engagement and social change. The goal is to equip participants to envision the creation of new art projects, actions, and events that spark necessary conversations and center the lives and voices of often marginalized communities. Each session will include activities that will help foster the ability to plan and coordinate multi-genre artistic agitations intended to exert influence and inspire change.
The Art of Dissent is part workshop, part discussion, part peer skill and strategy building session, part fellowship, and part curated art experience.
This series is made possible by the Creative Futures Initiative with Carolina Performing Arts in collaboration with Northstar Church of the Arts and Dasan Ahanu.
