Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department is teaming up with I-43 One Stop in Maribel & Rick’s Piggly Wiggly in Kiel to offer a FREE well water nitrate screening the week of March 6-10th 2023 during National Groundwater Awareness Week. Bring ½ cup well water in a clean bottle to the Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department or to one of 2 screening locations.

Park Avenue, Kiel 1:00-5:00pmNitrate, a compound of nitrogen and oxygen, naturally occurs at low levels in our environment. It can also enter groundwater at significantly higher concentrations from fertilizers, manure, septic systems, and sewage treatment practices. Private well owners are encouraged to have their water tested every year. Exposure to high nitrate levels in drinking water can be dangerous to your health and is particularly harmful to infants and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.
