Description

Faith and community leaders are often the first points of contact when individuals and families face mental health problems or traumatic events. In times of crisis, many will turn to trusted leaders in their communities before they turn to mental health professionals. Will you know how to respond? Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance-use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction crises and concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Topics Covered: Depression and mood disorder Anxiety disordersTrauma Psychosis Substance Use disordersPlease note: This is an 8-hour course, scheduled in two 4-hour sessions. There is a limit of 30 participants, so register now! You must attend both sessions in order to be certified. Session 1: April 12, 8:30am - 12:30pm Session 2: April 13, 8:30am - 12:30pm A minimum of 15 participants are needed by April 5, or the training will be rescheduled.
