Description

*This is a FREE in person event for for youth-serving professionals* Across the country, more and more organizations are adopting a trauma-informed approach. Among those who work with children and youth, it is even more important that we practice trauma-informed approaches in order to protect the learning environment and provide the best possible service to those in our care. Individuals who are triggered and re-traumatized have difficulty accessing educational and community resources. Trauma-informed schools and youth-serving organizations build the resilience of staff and students alike, resulting in better outcomes, engagement, satisfaction, well-being, and retention. Resilience can be taught, and it is profoundly important for ourselves, our organizations, and our communities at large. Research into resilience shows us that nurturing relationships in childhood are a key factor in overcoming adversity. The quality and stability of these relationships in early years lay the foundation for healthy growth and development. Developing an understanding of the growing body of research in the area of Trauma and Trauma Informed Care is essential in working with students in today's educational and youth-serving environments. Through this presentation participants will gain an understanding of what trauma is, what causes it, and what can be done to prevent it and/or reverse its effects through an understanding of a trauma-informed approach. Participants will learn the importance of self-care and resilience and leave with some practical and easily applicable tools to use at home, at school, or at work. In this training, we will: Define trauma and understand it’s prevalenceDescribe the impact of toxic or chronic stressUnderstand the basic concepts of Trauma Informed CareConsider ways to support resilienceLunch will be provided. Please email Doty with any questions.
