Description

Join Women Accelerators, the UMass Lowell Innovation Hub, Lowell Women's Week, and Kathleen Ralls for this exciting new event! Kathleen defended her PhD with the plan to pursue a new career path in higher education. The pandemic had other plans, however, and she pivoted into a new and exciting career path as an entrepreneur. In this talk she will discuss how the road to success as a career-changer is not always an easy one from building new networks to redefining skills to succeed in a new industry. Still, the opportunity to set new goals and continue to learn makes it all worthwhile! Kathleen Ralls, Ph.D.Kathleen Ralls, PhD, is an award-winning educator, sports coach, and Fulbright Scholar. Her doctoral research focusing on gender equity, sports, and voice empowerment led her to create KR LLC, a female empowerment and leadership training organization where she acts as executive director. She holds a BA in journalism from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an MAT in secondary education and teaching from American University, and a PhD in leadership and education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Kathleen began her career as a sportswriter before finding a passion for teaching and coaching. She recently published her first book: Take Her Word for It: Sports Cultivates World-Class Leaders. A lifelong learner, she has visited over twenty countries and conducted research on four continents. Kathleen is an avid athlete who has completed more marathons than pull-ups. Event Collaborators :Lowell Women’s Week Lowell Women’s Week honors the women who came before us and celebrates the women of today. Our celebration takes place during March, proclaimed by a joint resolution of Congress in 1987 as Women’s History Month. This month-long observance grew out of Women’s History Week, initiated in 1978 by the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women and enacted in 1981 by a Joint Congressional Resolution. At the center of the celebration is International Women’s Day, celebrated worldwide on March 8. https://lowellwomensweek.org Women AcceleratorsWomen Accelerators is an organization that is passionate about promoting the advancement of women. We are focused on giving women the tools they need to succeed in working towards bridging the gender gap. The lack of gender equality and the under-representation of women at the senior level is evident in the boardroom from the corporate 500 to startups. Women Accelerators serve women in all stages of their careers providing them with a solid foundation to succeed. https://womenaccelerators.org/ UMass Lowell Innovation HubThe UMass Lowell Innovation Hubs provide startup programming and access to the UMass Lowell's faculty and research resources, as well as collaboration with mentors and sponsors. Our spaces address the needs of "open innovation" startups by offering them work and laboratory space and access to office resources in the short term, rather than long-term, expensive business leases. https://www.uml.edu/Innovation-Hub/
