Description
Please join us Sunday afternoon, March 12th, at 4:00pm on New Trier's Northfield Campus for a Cornog Auditorium screening of the sports documentary, GameChangers, followed by a special panel discussion. The 77-minute independent film looks back at two high school basketball games played against the backdrop of the turbulent Sixties. This SuperSectional rivalry took place in back to back years at McGaw Hall in Evanston for the rights to head downstate. Fifty years later, these two teams, Marshall and New Trier, reunited for a long overdue Game Watch. Featuring 8mm film shot at both games, the documentary includes interviews with the participating players, coaches, athletic directors, fans and cheerleaders from those respective teams, weaving those perspectives around the archival game footage. Legendary Chicago broadcasters are also featured, including the late Chet Coppock, the film's narrator, the late Merri Dee, and Walter Jacobson. Tickets for the fundraiser are $20 for adults ($10 for those 18 and under) and tax-deductible, benefiting the GameChangers '65-'66 Foundation. Established by members of these very same Marshall and New Trier teams as a means to pay it forward, the foundation will use every dollar from this screening directly for scholarships. Since inception, the foundation has awarded over $100,000 in GameChanger Grants, primarily benefiting high school seniors on Chicago's West Side. Prior year recipients from Marshall, Evanston and New Trier are listed on the GameChangers website. GameChanger Grants GameChangers has appeared in theaters, at festivals, and on television more than 50 times over the last five years and we hope you can join us on March 12th. You'll find a link to the two minute trailer for GameChangers below: GameChangers trailer "Every high school student walking the halls today should see GameChangers." CHET COPPOCK, THE LATE SPORTS BROADCASTING LEGEND & GAMECHANGERS NARRATOR, NEW TRIER CLASS OF '66 "Marshall proudly hosts a GameChanger screening every year on Martin Luther King weekend that supports our MLK Dream Classic basketball invitational.
