Each year OSU-Com's Global Medicine Club partners with the Pros for Africa division of the Sewing Hope Foundation to provide assistance to St. Monica’s School and Clinic in Gulu, Uganda. Many communities in Uganda, including Gulu, have been devastated by years of warfare. St. Monica’s provides a home for girls rescued from Joseph Kony’s army and teaches them trade skills that will help integrate them back into society. St. Monica's was founded and is currently run by Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe, one of Time’s 100 most influential people in 2014.
The money raised from this event will be used to help furnish sustainable clinic and functioning medical lab in Atiak, Uganda, just north of Gulu. This will expand Sister Rosemary’s aid and hopefully create a ripple of change and progress to other communities surrounding St. Monica’s in Gulu.
