Description

EWOCC is recognized to be one of the longest-running conferences in the nation that addresses the needs and concerns of womxn* of color. The conference has brought together cutting-edge womxn of color activists such as Angela Davis, Elaine Brown, Cherrie Moraga, Gina Palcado and Chrystos with Bay Area community leaders and academics (especially students) to discuss and strategize ways of impacting the current issues facing womxn of color. In this 38th Annual EWOCC, we set out to shift our focus from classifying and overcoming our trauma to instead finding ways to bask in the joy and wonder of our community and who we are. We will be featuring our keynote speaker, Taina Asili, workshop presenters, a Q&A panelist session, a catered lunch and light refreshments, networking opportunities, and raffle prizes! Stay up to date with us on IG @BerkeleyWOCI and visit our website for more information: https://ewocc-berkeley.com *** Our beautiful artwork was done by Amir Khadar (They/Them). Amir is a visual artist, designer, and educator from Minneapolis, working out of Philadelphia. Their artwork is intentionally positioned in social movement spaces, where it is central in creating visual language for liberatory initiatives and agendas around racial, gender, and climate justice. Amir's illustrations and movement artwork are grounded through art's ability to imagine alternate worlds and make liberation tangible. [ IG - @Amir.Khadar, Website - https://www.amirkhadar.com] Taina Asili, this year's EWOCC keynote speaker, is an acclaimed New York-based Puerto Rican singer, speaker, filmmaker and activist. She performs an energetic Afro-Latin fusion with lyrics that carry powerful calls for love and liberation. Taína Asili combines powerful vocals with a multi-genre fusion – confidently weaving between salsa, rock, reggae, cumbia, reggaeton, and hip hop – with multilingual songs that beat with the heart of social change. With energetic and infectious rhythms, Asili’s music urges people to get on their feet and dance to the rhythm of rebellion. Taina's music videos have premiered in Rolling Stone and Mic.com, and featured in Billboard Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Latina Magazine, receiving national acclaim. As a queer-identified artist, she has performed at San Francisco Pride, NYC Pride Rally and Human Rights Conference, and numerous LGBTQIA events throughout the nation. Join us this year in a chance to celebrate each other and our community! No one will be turned away for lack of funds, please email [email protected] with any support you may need!
