Description

Small Group Road Trip - No Big Crowds Discover Paradise right here in Florida. Just a two-hour drive from the Villages is one of Florida’s hidden gems – Pass-a-Grille Beach! At the southernmost tip of the barrier island, Pass-a-Grille retains its Old Florida appeal. On the west side of the island stretches 4 miles of white sandy beach where gentle waves caress the shore line leaving behind an array of beautiful shells. On the east side, a fishing pier (Merry Pier) stretches into the bay hosting fishermen and pelicans hoping to catch dinner. In between, you will find restaurants, and boutique shops worth a visit. From your chair in the sand, watch for dolphins hunting just a few yards off the beach. In April, you might just see a passing Manatee! Looking for a little more action, head over to the Merry Pier where you can rent fishing tackle. Toss a line in and see what you catch! If you are feeling energetic, walk north on the beach and you will run into the historic Don Cesar hotel – The Pink Hotel. Along the way, collect a few of the beautiful shells that wash ashore. We will leave Brownwood at 8:00 a.m. for the 1.5 to 2-hour drive to Pass-a-Grille. We plan to stay approximately 4 hours enjoying this cute old Florida town before boarding the bus at 2:00 p.m. for our drive back to The Villages. Plan to pack your beach chair(s) and umbrella. A limited number of lounge chairs and clam-shells are available for rent in a designated section of the beach. Sun block will be required! Even in the cooler months, the sun is hot on the beach. There are numerous places within easy walking distance to get food and beverages but you may want to carry some water. Public bathrooms are available at Paradise Grill. There are NO BATHROOMS ON THE BUS! This trip costs $60 per person which covers the bus, tolls, fuel surcharges and a generous gratuity for the driver – no need to tip on the way off the bus, I’ve got you covered. The fare is non-refundable but can be transferred. This is because we have to pay for the bus in advance and cancelations place the financial burden on the host.
