Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age 5, no matter their family’s income. Aurora Rotary Club Imagination Library mission is to increase literacy in Aurora by ensuring all children ages birth to 5 may participate in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Since becoming an affiliate in January 2022, The Aurora Rotary Club has mailed 12,379 books to children in Aurora. By providing books at no cost to families, the Aurora Rotary Club increases childhood literacy rates, fosters a love of books, and promotes a culture of reading among underserved families in high-risk communities of Aurora. The City of Aurora has over 30,604 eligible children under the age of 5. There are currently 2,013 children enrolled and 135 children have graduated from the program. After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly. First books were only distributed to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee where Dolly grew up. It became such a success that in 2000 a national replication effort was underway. By 2003, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library had mailed one million books. It would prove to be the first of many millions of books sent to children around the world. Our goal at Aurora Rotary is to have all children birth to age 5 in Aurora have access to free, age-appropriate books and to promote Kindergarten Literacy Readiness. There are approximately 30,064 children under 5 years old in Aurora. We're here to inspire a love of reading, foster love for books and home literacy practices.
