Our 6th Annual Historical Fiction Author Brunch is on Saturday, April 22, 2023, and begins at 10 am. We are so excited about our 2023 panel of extraordinary authors and can't wait for you to meet them! Susan Meissner is a USA Today bestselling author of historical fiction with more than half a million books in print in fifteen languages. She is an author, speaker and writing workshop leader with a background in community journalism. Her novels include As Bright as Heaven, starred review in Library Journal; Secrets of a Charmed Life, a Goodreads finalist for Best Historical Fiction 2015; and A Fall of Marigolds, named to Booklist’s Top Ten Women’s Fiction titles for 2014. She co-authored "When We Had Wings" with Kristina McMorris and Ariel Lawhon and has a new book coming out right before our event! " Only The Beautiful" takes place in California, 1938—Seventeen-year-old Rosanne swore to her dying mother she’d reveal to no one that she sees unexplainable flashes of color when she hears sounds. When she not only breaks that vow but in a moment of abandon ends up pregnant, she is sent to a place where so-called inherited “flaws” are not tolerated. Vienna, 1947—Helen, who spent the war years as a nanny witnessing the same kind of thinking at its absolute worst, returns home to California and learns what really happened to the girl she long ago befriended at the family vineyard, soon discovering that while the war had been won in Europe, there are still hard battles to be fought at home. Susan attended Point Loma Nazarene University and lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and their yellow Lab, Winston. Kristina McMorris is the author of New York Times bestseller, Sold on a Monday, which has sold one million copies since its publication in 2018, returns with THE WAYS WE HIDE, a harrowing WWII tale of love and betrayal. Inspired by true accounts, this is the fascinating story of a mastermind illusionist and inventor who is called upon by MI9 British Intelligence to develop escape devices to help Allied prisoners escape German forces. In The Ways We Hide, using deeply rendered emotion, Kristina McMorris transports readers to a richly reconstructed past where a brilliant woman, no longer content to stand on the sidelines, finds the courage to claim her place in history. She co-authored "When We Had Wings" with Susan Meissner and Ariel Lawhon. She lives with her family in Oregon. Ariel Lawhon is a critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling author of historical fiction. She is the author of THE WIFE THE MAID AND THE MISTRESS (2014), FLIGHT OF DREAMS (2016), I WAS ANASTASIA (2018), and the CODE NAME HÉLÈNE (2020). Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have been Library Reads, One Book One County, Indie Next, Costco, Amazon Spotlight, and Book of the Month Club selections. She lives in the rolling hills outside Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband and four sons. Her newest book "When We Had Wings" is a collaborative effort of three bestselling authors with an interwoven tale about a trio of World War II nurses stationed in the South Pacific who wage their own battle for freedom and survival. In this sweeping story based on the true experiences of nurses dubbed “the Angels of Bataan,” three women shift in and out of each other’s lives through the darkest days of the war, buoyed by their unwavering friendship and distant dreams of liberation. Jennifer Coburn is the author of Cradles of the Reich, a historical novel about three very different women living at a Nazi Lebensborn breeding home at the start of World War ll. Germany, 1939. The nation is on the brink of war and Hitler’s plan to create a “master race” of pure-blooded Aryan babies has been launched. The top-secret Lebensborn Nazi breeding program is brought to life in Cradles of the Reich, the story of three German women who change the course of one another's lives. She has also published a mother-daughter travel memoir, We'll Always Have Paris, as well as six contemporary women's novels.
