The Northern Trust Leaders Conference, scheduled for Tuesday 7th November, is set to take place at the prestigious Chamber of Commerce in Manchester. This highly anticipated event will bring together leaders from various multi academy trusts in the Northern region, from Birmingham to Newcastle, creating a unique platform for collaboration and networking. 2023 has already been a challenging year with northern schools facing increased pressures (over other regions) in: • Funding Shortages - Many schools in the North receive less funding than those in other parts of the country, which can limit their ability to invest in resources, facilities, and staff. • Challenging Recruitment and Retention: Addressing the challenge of Northern schools struggling to attract and retain more high-quality teachers and staff, particularly in more remote areas. • Social and Economic Disadvantage: Many schools in the North serve students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, which can lead to additional challenges related to student engagement, academic achievement, and wellbeing. • Ageing Infrastructure and Facilities: Some schools in the North may have outdated or inadequate facilities, which can impact student learning and wellbeing. Additionally, some schools in more remote areas may face challenges related to transportation and access to resources. • Mental Health and Wellbeing: Northern schools, like schools across the UK, are seeing an increase in mental health and wellbeing challenges among their staff. Addressing these challenges requires a collaborative effort and that is the aim of The Northern Trust Leaders Conference 2023. Keynote speakers will include prominent education figures, policymakers, and industry leaders who will share their insights on topics ranging from governance, school improvement, estates and school financial management.
