Cinema on the Ave: Inspired Education Screening Shorts Program | 1967-85 | Not rated | 82 minutes Thursday, April 6, 2023 7:00 PM ET WALKER THEATRE, 617 INDIANA AVE., INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46202 Free but registration is required One day with a great teacher is better than a thousand days of diligent study. This moving program introduces eight unique, inspiring teachers, educational programs and the students they impact. This selection of films includes the restored 1986 short film Masters of Disaster, which was nominated for an Academy Award and features students from the Indianapolis Public School 27 as well as Super 8, highlighting high school student filmmakers from North Manchester, Indiana. Arrive early to enjoy interactive demonstrations of 16mm film handling equipment with trained film archivists. Curated by Jennifer and Jon Vickers. Each event will be introduced and followed by a Q&A with curators, archivists and/or film subjects. This film program is supported by the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation, Indiana University’s Arts and Humanities Council and the IU Presidential Arts & Humanities Program, the Office of the IUB Provost, IU’s Office of the Vice President for Research, University Collections, the Black Film Center Archive, Madam Walker Legacy Center, IU Bloomington School of Education, IUPUI School of Education and Manchester University College of Education & Social Sciences.
