JACKSON HOLE, WY—Take a 15-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Dobro Player of the Year and a Tennessee-born guitar prodigy called “Nashville’s hottest young player” by Acoustic Guitar magazine, and you have Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley, a powerhouse acoustic duo that has electrified the acoustic music scene around the world. Known for their white-hot picking, stone-country vocals with soul and world class live musicianship, Ickes and Hensley meld together blues, bluegrass, country and rock to form a signature blend of music that defies restrictions of genre. They are equally at home on stages of prestigious performing arts centers, theatres and the Grand Ole Opry as they are on Americana, bluegrass and jam band festivals, and on March 16th, the duo will perform at the next Silver Dollar Showroom Session. Ickes, who co-founded the highly influential bluegrass group Blue Highway, has been an A-team Nashville session player and performing musician for decades, with credits including Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, and Alison Krauss, among others. Beyond his guitar prowess, Hensley’s soulful baritone vocals have received widespread notice. He’s performed with the likes of Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs and Peter Frampton, and made his debut on The Grand Ole Opry at the tender age of eleven. Together the duo creates a signature blend all their own. They have collaborated and shared the stage with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, Taj Mahal, David Grisman, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Marty Stuart and Steve Wariner. Their live shows showcase their original tunes, as well as dipping into repertoires as diverse as The Allman Brothers Band, Ray Charles, Merle Haggard, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. After garnering a GRAMMY nomination for their first album together, the duo is currently touring in support of Living in a Song, their fourth record released earlier this month, which is already creating critical buzz in the industry. The Silver Dollar Showroom Sessions are a unique offering in Jackson Hole, pairing world class entertainers in an intimate setting, with a delicious 3-course meal.
