Beginning in the 1960s, a small band of young scientists headed out into the wilderness, driven by an insatiable curiosity about how nature works. Immersed in some of the most remote and spectacular places on Earth—from the majestic Serengeti to the Amazon jungle; from the Arctic Ocean to Pacific tide pools—they discovered a single set of rules that govern all life. PBS Nature Now in the twilight of their eminent careers, these five unsung heroes of modern ecology share the stories of their adventures, reveal how their pioneering work flipped our view of nature on its head, and give us a chance to reimagine the world as it could and should be. Documentary, runtime 1 hr, 24 minutes. The film will be introduced by Dr. Fred Gould, Co-Director of the Genetic Engineering and Society Center. About the Global Film Series The Global Film Series at NC State is a collaborative initiative to bring a variety of international and globally-focused films to campus. Interdisciplinary partners across campus select films from current releases, documentaries and classics highlighting the joys and struggles of the global community in which we live. These films also provide a venue for faculty, staff, and students to share their global experiences and expertise with a wider campus and community audience. All films feature an academic introduction and an opportunity for reflection at the film's conclusion. The Global Film Series is presented by the Office of Global Engagement and NC State University Libraries. All films are free and open to the community.
