Description
From stock characters established for centuries, to “Girl Fridays”, to villains, to heroes. The powerful presence of the “Damsel in Distress” connotates a woman in peril needing to be rescued. However, much like an iceberg, this character has a lot more under the surface than meets the eye. The cultural implications on how this literary device has been received over time, is as they say, complicated. Together we will dig deep and explore how she has been used, abused and with a changing society, it’s time to give this lady a timely death.
Welcome to the funeral!
