In honor of Black History Month the Riviera Ridge School partnered with Healing Justice Santa Barbara (HJSB), a local community organization, to collaborate, celebrate and honor Black History in Santa Barbara. This month, HJSB’s Black History Exhibition will have a new home at The Riviera Ridge School, so the overarching goals of HJSB can continue to provide support and access to Black/African-American cultural resources, celebrate and fund the Arts, Public Safety, Support for Our Youth in Education, Environmental Justice and Sustainability, Outreach, and Meaningful Collaborations.
HJSB is dedicated to uplifting “all Black/African-Americans to affirm that they deserve safety, love, equity, respect, and joy.” HJSB opened the first Black History Exhibition on State Street in 2022, chronicling a rich and complex history of Black life in Santa Barbara. Our vision is to invite the Santa Barbara community at large, and school community members to engage, learn, and celebrate Black History from and in our own neighborhoods.
The exhibition will be open to the public at The Riviera Ridge School’s historic Tea House on Saturday, February 25th, and Sunday, February 26th, from 2 pm to 4 pm for all Santa Barbara and Central Coast community members to learn and enjoy. A closing reception will be held on Monday, February 27, from 4pm to 6pm, at the Historic Tea House to honor HJSB and their efforts to uplift the Black community and the Riviera Ridge community’s work in co-creating a more equitable future.
