Holi is a spring festival, also known as festival of colors or the festival of sharing Love.
The word "Holi" originates from "Holika", the evil sister of the demon king
Hiranyakashipu. The festival has many purposes; most prominently, it celebrates the
beginning of Spring.
It is primarily observed in India, Nepal, and other regions of the world with significant
populations of people of Indian origin. In recent years the festival has spread to parts of
Europe and North America as a spring celebration of love, frolic, and colors.
Every year ISA will create a platform for the students at University of
Houston Clear Lake to celebrate Holi on campus just the way they celebrate back in
India. Our main purpose here is to keep India and its cultural heritage alive in our hearts
far away from home in United states. Please contact the Indian Student Association for
more details.
