Description
According to the Association for the Study of American Life and History (ASALH) the 2023 theme for Black History Month is Black Resistance. Black people are always navigating space—which spaces we occupy, how we show up in spaces, creating spaces where we can show up authentically, avoiding spaces where we won’t fit in, or shrinking to be accepted in spaces we can’t avoid. Taking up space in unexpected places as a Black person is an act of resistance. This is especially true in the realm of fitness and wellness, where something that is supposed to be good for all can often feel exclusive and limiting. This February, expect three consecutive Sundays of movement with some of our favorite instructors in the community. Whether resistance to you means finding a moment to rest or a moment to sweat, grab your crew and meet us at Mayweather Boxing + Fitness. All are welcome. Learn about the classes and meet your instructors below: February 12th | Total Body Strength with Aaliyah Earvin Aaliyah Earvin is the founder of the North of Seattle Rub Club, a certified run coach, personal trainer, life & health coach, and 200-hour YTT yoga instructor, whose passion is helping others become more confident in their wellness journey! He is the Studio OP Manager and Lead Trainer at Mayweather Boxing + Fitness in The Village at Totem Lake. His passion is and to give people opportunities in the fitness world, to believe in their inner untapped potential. He believes everyone has something in them that they have yet to tap into and believes fitness has way of doing that. Having a coach that can hear them out but also give them a challenge/ perspective or other methods through physical fitness, communication and comprehension. To be represented as someone who understands what it’s like, not to have it all together, to be more open minded with mental health as well when it comes to these challenges. "To be a black man in the fitness industry—I want to be a representation for others. The youth are our future, and showing our elders re-educate themselves health is wealth. To talking more about taking care of yourself is cool, to have someone that looks like you or gets that it’s not all sunshine and rainbows and you have be ready to give yourself those real talks. That’s what I’m here for, but most importantly teach how to put self-care first. That is my vow that I continue to pursue." Learn more about Hawi and keep in touch with him on Instagram.
