This is a rare chance to explore the old Haydite Mine site and hear about West Creek Conservancy’s efforts to restore the natural ecosystem and repurpose this industrial site into a park. Following West Creek Conservancy’s mission to Protect, Restore and Connect, this hike will focus on restoring nature to this old industrial site whose history is linked to the economy and growth of the local community. As part of the tour we will also discuss the mining operations and the geology that produced the deposit of clay that was mined here.
This hike will be over moderate terrain. Sturdy hiking boots or high-top tennis shoes that give good ankle support are recommended.

Meet at the main gate to the mine at 8900 Hemlock Rd, Independence, OH 44131.
Please be on time; once the hike starts the gate will be closed and late arrivals will not be admitted.
