SL Cook presents...Stand Up for DV Awareness. This fundraising event takes place on Thursday, May 18th with a 7pm showtime. Doors will open at 6:30pm. The venue? The Edition in Van Wert, OH! Your ticket price includes delicious appetizers and light bites from Van Wert's hottest new spot! The bar & restaurant will also be open should you wish to order additional food and/or alcohol at your own cost.The entertainment? For starters, we have Guest DJ, C-Rob from Columbus, OH. You may remember him as DJ Old Skool from Kiss 93.9. He will get the party started right! Next, we have not one, not two, but THREE incredible comedians set to perform! Up first, Red Parker out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Red takes a humorous, tell it like it is approach and will have you in stitches with her unique style of comedy. She has performed across Ohio and Indiana, doing stand up in local clubs and bars. Next in the lineup is Brian Swinehart. Brian is an American actor, writer, stand-up comedian, and award winning producer. In 2000, Brian left his home state of Ohio to relocate to California to pursue his acting career. In a short period of time Brian began working as an actor and became a member of the Screen Actors Guild. In 2002 Brian took the stage for the first time as a Standup comedian. After months of hard-work, it all began to pay off for Brian when he begun to get standup comedy bookings all over the United States! At the same time Brian was also booking parts in independent movies and building a strong acting resume. Brian had studied with some of the best acting teachers and acting schools in Hollywood. In 2009 his training was about to get even deeper when he got a job as the stand-in for Matthew McConaughey in the movie Lincoln Lawyer. On the set of Lincoln Lawyer Brian watched Matthew closely, read lines with him and threw a football with him at lunch. Brian worked on a McConaughey impression. He is an all around performer and is looking forward to making you laugh like you've not laughed before! Last, but certainly not least is the headliner, Comedian Hay-J. Coming to us from Cincinnati, OH, Hay-J has made appearances on Comedy Central, Fox TV, HBO, Netflix, NBC, and in the fall of 2023, will be appearing on the new ABC series, "St. Marks". He is the owner of Ovations Entertainment in Cincinnati. Why a comedy show? Because laughter is a universal language and honestly, life is just better when you're laughing! You said this is a fundraiser. What will the proceeds from this event fund? That is a GREAT question and one I am sure several of you have! In October of 2022, I hosted an event called Celebrating Survival. This event was held in my now home of Palm Beach County, FL. The brunch style event featured a silent auction and a donation drive for the Palm Beach County YWCA Domestic Violence Program, guest speakers who shared their stories of survival, a delicious catered brunch, incredible gifts for all in attendance, and the joy that comes from sharing in something beautiful. I will be replicating this event and hosting it in Van Wert in 2023. As I work towards completing all the paperwork and steps that are necessary to gain 501 c3 (non-profit) status, I want to keep the momentum going. What is the momentum? Making the purple ribbon as recognizable for domestic violence awareness as other colored ribbons are for other awareness campaigns. The funds raised from this comedy show will aid in that and help offset costs associated with Celebrating Survival in Van Wert, OH in October of 2023. Must be 18+ to attend.
