Women face unique challenges in the field of digestive diseases, both as patients and practitioners. This activity will address these challenges in an exciting and interactive forum. Topics include the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of common gastrointestinal and liver diseases that afflict women more commonly and/or differently than men as well as strategic solutions to barriers women gastroenterologists and other women providers in gastroenterology face in their career development. This activity aims to discuss the diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment of common gastrointestinal and liver diseases that afflict women more commonly and/or in different ways than men. This activity also aims to discuss strategic solutions to barriers that women gastroenterologists and other women healthcare providers face in their career development. The educational information presented in this activity is expected to add to the participants’ knowledge about gastrointestinal diseases that afflict women more commonly and how to recognize and manage them. As such, it will improve their competence and performance as they applies the knowledge in their own practice, which will in turn translate into better patient outcomes. The career development topics are expected to help the women gastroenterologists and other women providers navigate challenges they face in their career, whether in private practice or academia, to allow them to find success and progress further in their chosen paths. Target Audience This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals interested in the treatment of women with gastrointestinal illnesses and the career development of women providers in the field of gastroenterology. Learning Objectives • Discuss the appropriate use of imaging modalities in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal bleeding; • Identify high-risk patients based on family history and endoscopic findings who are appropriate for genetic testing and evaluation in high-risk gastrointestinal cancer clinics; • State the appropriate use of emerging therapies in the management of eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders; • Determine strategies that help women healthcare providers overcome barriers in the advancement of their careers and promote success in their chosen paths; • Recognize barriers to fertility among female health care providers, options for oocyte cryopreservation, and a common approach to infertility; • Distinguish how to implement recommendations on dietary modifications that optimize gastrointestinal health in women.
