The Inaugural HerStory Speaker Event, hosted by Women in Business at FSU, will celebrate Women's History Month by providing students with the opportunity to hear from three female leaders on FSU's campus about how they achieved success in their careers as women. Panelists will include Dr. Amy Hecht (VP of Student Affairs), Professor Holly Sudano (Assistant Department Chair-Accounting), and Dr. Deb Armstrong (Management Information Systems professor). Come hear about how these speakers arrived at their current roles, what advice they have for female undergraduate students today preparing to enter the workforce, and how things have changed for women in business in recent years. A casual networking session will take place in the courtyard outside of the Askew Student Life Center beginning at 6 PM. The panel discussion will begin at 7 PM. Please email [email protected] with any questions. About the Speakers: Dr. Amy Hecht serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs at FSU. Dr. Hecht's previous roles include serving as the VP for Student Affairs at The College of New Jersey, Assistant VP for Student Affairs at Auburn University, Associate Dean of Students at Temple University, Assistant Dean of Students at Temple University, and the Assistant Director of Student Activities at Cabrini College in Radnor, PA. A graduate of Florida State, she earned her bachelor's degree in mass communications and went on to obtain a master's degree and doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, Dr. Hecht has published a book on the role of assistant and associate vice presidents in student affairs and has authored various book chapters and articles on the topics of organizational learning, change, and executive transitions. Professor Holly Sudano serves as a senior lecturer and assistant chair of the Department of Accounting at FSU. In addition, Professor Sudano is the director of the Combined Pathways Program in Accounting and the director of the Master of Accounting Program. She has received FSU's Undergraduate and Graduate Awards, as well as the Core Values Award, and has been nominated for the Faculty Seminole Award. Professor Sudano serves as an advisor to Beta Alpha Psi, the Association of Latino Professionals for America, and the National Association of Black Accountants. She has experience in the corporate world as well, having worked at Accenture in Client Financial Management. Professor Sudano graduated from FSU with bachelor's degrees in Accounting and MIS, as well as a Master of Accounting with a focus in accounting information systems. Dr. Deb Armstrong is a professor of Management Information Systems at FSU. Dr. Armstrong's research is focused on the intersection of information systems personnel and cognition involving the human aspects of technology, change, and learning. Her work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Management Information Systems, the European Journal of Information Systems, and Management Information Systems Quarterly. In addition, Dr. Armstrong serves as the co-editor-in-chief for The DATABASE for Advances in Information Systems. Dr. Amstrong graduated from California State University Long Beach with a bachelor's degree in economics and went on to receive her MBA from Avila College and a Ph.D. in information systems from the University of Kansas.
