WEEK 5 Intermediate
Classic Married Wing Wet Flies: Trout Fin. Wet flies have been around as long as fly fishing itself, and tying married wings is a traditional technique for creating wet flies. This refers to the method of "marrying", or attaching, very small sections of dyed duck, goose or turkey wing quill from a matched pair together to form the full wing for the fly. The most famous classic married wing wet flies are very effective for trout, salmon and grayling and can be tied with more natural hues to imitate terrestrial or aquatic insects, or as an attractor pattern in colorful artistic creations. Fish them traditionally as a brace of flies by casting slightly down and across the current on a floating line with a slow hand-twist retrieve. Or tie them on as a tail fly to a streamer or woolly bugger, strip them in and hold on for a strike.
