Description

Presented by: Rochester Colonial Manufacturing A Conference of The Landmark Society of Western New York, Preservation Association of Central New York, City of Auburn, Preservation League of New York State, and NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The NY Statewide Preservation Conference is returning to an in-person format and is headed to Syracuse! We can’t wait to see you in the Salt City, September 22- 24, for three days of exploration, conversation, and education. The historic Marriott Syracuse Downtown— vacant since 2004 and re-opened in 2016 using historic tax credits—will be our home base. From there, we’ll explore preservation projects throughout downtown Syracuse and beyond. BACK TO BASICS Join us lakeside in 2023, in the small Finger Lakes City of Auburn! At this year’s Conference, we’re going Back to Basics, exploring some of the programs and topics that are foundational to historic preservation. You’ll still get the challenging and progressive preservation content that you know and love—with a focus on a few key topics: preservation in small upstate cities, the Main Street model, preparing for New York State’s upcoming anniversaries, and the intersection of preservation and affordable housing. With a more compact schedule (we’ll have one set of sessions with all attendees in one big room) and enhanced opportunities to pose your questions, this year’s event is designed to be a convening of grassroots and professional preservationists from across the state. Your voice and perspective will be an essential part of the conversation. The NY Statewide Preservation Conference is the only event of its kind in the state—a gathering for anyone involved in preservation and community revitalization. It’s an opportunity to learn, network, become inspired and, yes, have fun! It is the preservation event in New York State and you don’t want to miss it. WHO IS THE CONFERENCE FOR? Grassroots preservationists in villages, rural towns, and cities throughout New York; professionals working in the field or allied fields (architects, planners, landscape architects, developers, etc.); elected officials and municipal board members; city neighborhood leaders/activists; students in preservation and allied fields.
