Description
We know that food is medicine and nutrition can help protect against disease. But, what is the best diet for you? LSU’s Pennington Biomedical researchers will talk about the exciting, new nationwide study on how a person’s health based on their demographics, microbiome, metabolism, family medical history, physical fitness and strength can impact the way in which they respond to foods and diets. Dr. Leanne Redman and Dr. Eric Ravussin will join 14 other universities and leverage the All of Us program, which is collecting biomedical data on 1 million people across the U.S., and the power of artificial intelligence (AI), for their ground-breaking National Institutes of Health-funded Nutrition for Precision Health study. About the Speakers Dr. Leanne Redman is a Professor of Clinical Science whose studies human physiology. She designs and conducts controlled clinical trials where diet and/or physical activity are changed to with the goal to understand the mechanisms of obesity development as well as to develop and test interventions to promote health in women and for healthy aging. She has published more than 200 research articles, reviews and book chapters around metabolism, obesity, calorie restriction, exercise and pregnancy. Dr. Eric Ravussin is a world expert in translational research in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Over his more than 35-year career, he has conducted numerous clinical investigations on measures of energy expenditure, body composition, carbohydrate metabolism and biomarkers of aging in health and disease states. Over the past 20 years, he has established a wet lab studying skeletal muscle and adipose tissue cross talks and the relationship of these two tissues on inflammation, nutrient partitioning and insulin sensitivity. He has published more than 450 peer-reviewed manuscripts in the field of obesity, type 2 diabetes and aging. He has mentored more than 60 postdoctoral fellows.
