Description

The Functional Literacy Program is brought to you by University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration, the University of Pittsburgh Homewood Community Engagement Center (CEC), and the David Berg Center for Leadership and Ethics of Pitt Business. The Functional Literacy Program will span over the course of four weeks and will be taught by Pitt Business undergraduate students and Homewood CEC staff. Here are the topics for each week: Week 1: Computer Basics & Outlook. This week will cover the fundamentals of how to maximize basic functions of a computer and will address how to create an email account through Outlook. Effective email management will also be covered in this week's training. Week 2: Microsoft Word. This week will be about utilizing the fundamental features of Microsoft Word resulting in better documents. Week 3: Resumes & Cover Letters. This week will be about how to build a stronger and more professional resume, as well as how to write an effective cover letter. The knowledge and skills learned in this week can help you grow professionally! Week 4: Employment at University of Pittsburgh. This last week will discuss how to apply for a job at the University of Pittsburgh using the Talent Center, the benefits of working at Pitt, the dos and don'ts of job interviews, and other helpful tips for employment. There will be two different dates and times offered for each topic, a session offered in the evening and a session offered in the morning. You can register for multiple sessions throughout the course of the four-week program, or you can register for just one session! The program is open to all individuals. Registration ahead of time is not required, but encouraged since there are only fifteen computers available and we want to ensure everyone has access to a computer.
