Known for his electrifying guitar picking, Strings is making a name for himself as he wows audiences around the country with his unique style of bluegrass. Born in rural Michigan, Strings developed an early love for music from his stepfather Terry Barber, a well-known guitar picker within Midwestern bluegrass circles. After playing in metal bands during his schooldays, he returned to his roots and began focusing on his distinctive style of bluegrass music. He eventually relocated to Nashville, and in 2017, he released his debut LP album, Turmoil and Tinfoil , to critical acclaim. Strings is a prolific performer and has appeared onstage with a number of performers, including Dierks Bentley , Sam Bush, The Infamous String dusters and The Marcus King Band. He got his nickname, Billy Strings, from an aunt who recognized his musical talent from an early age. His talent was apparent as he quickly learned to play a variety of traditional bluegrass instruments. His stepfather taught him to play the guitar, and he has never stopped playing. Known for his intricate and frenetic pace, he was named one of the six new rising bluegrass stars by Acoustic Guitar in 2017.
