Description

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ~ Author presentation, followed by Q&A and book signing ~ Optional break-out sessions for book club discussion or Historical Novel Society networking until 1:30 p.m. The Arizona Chapter of the Historical Novel Society hosts free public events for readers, writers, and authors. Like the founding international organization, we aim to open the door to historical fiction for anyone who loves exploring the past. Our four yearly events alternate between Phoenix and Tucson. Award-winning Arizona author Ash Davidson joins us to discuss aspects of historical fiction writing. Her debut novel, Damnation Spring, set in the late 1970s among the Pacific Coast’s redwood forests, is described by Publisher’s Weekly as a novel that “explores the tension between a working-class community’s economic livelihood, the health risks posed by logging, and the environmentalists who spotlight its devastation.” Damnation Spring is the winner of the Reading the West Award for Debut Fiction and was named a best book of the year by The Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Newsweek, Kirkus, Amazon, the Chicago Public Library, BookPage, and BookRiot. Complimentary light refreshments will be provided by HNS-AZ. Books will be available for purchase at the event in the gift shop at The Western National Parks Association – The National Parks Store. In partnership with the National Park Service since 1938, The Western National Parks Association embraces the oral storytelling traditions and history of its 70+ partner parks. The organization advances education, interpretation, research, and community engagement to ensure national parks are increasingly valued by all. Learn more about future HNS-AZ events.
