SGT Wise, 21, of Tallahassee, a machine gunner in A Company 3rd Battalion 124th Infantry, became the first Florida National Guard Soldier killed in action to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. This Soldier with an infectious smile & an indomitable spirit died in Baghdad November 12, 2003 of shrapnel wounds to the head when an insurgent detonated a 155mm round planted on the road traveled by his HMMWV.
This Chili Cook-off bears the name of a Soldier who gave all for his nation & serves as remembrance of his actions….as well as for all who have made sacrifices for the United States of America.
Once again, all proceeds will be donated to Honor Flight Tallahassee & to another veteran related charity TBD.
The Honor Flight Tallahassee is part of the Honor Flight Network, a national organization that exists for one reason: “To take every WW II veteran who is capable of going & has not seen it, to see their monument at no cost to the veteran.” For more information, visit
