We are incredibly honored to host an inspirational figure in our community and beyond. Please join us for the author signing of Catherine: My Life Journey. We'll have an activity to participate in and reading sessions for all! We'll also have the amazing illustrator Karima Cromer signing and featuring a pop up of her beautiful art. Can't wait to see you all Revolutionary Readers! About the AMAZING Author and Opthamologist, Dr. Catherine Lowe: Catherine Lowe, M.D., LL.D. Dr. Catherine Lowe, a Board Certified, Comprehensive Ophthalmologist here in South Florida for more than four decades has throughout her professional career been a high achiever, a positive role model along with demonstrating a strong commitment to Community Service. For many years she has taken an active role in health and medical issues on the state and local levels. Her state of the arts office located in Palm Beach Gardens along with a professional staff have performed numerous eye surgeries and provided excellent medical eye care for many residents and visitors of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. Dr. Lowe has also frequently served as a child advocate, mentoring young students, as well as encouraging and nurturing young, talented visual and performing artists. She has a great track record of success and a stellar reputation. Dr. Lowe has diligently provided a helping hand to alleviate pain and suffering or put a twinkle into many eyes. As a healer and health care provider she is home grown and committed to her community. A long-time member and officer of the T. Leroy Jefferson Medical Society, Palm Beach County Medical Society, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Founder and President of Artists Showcase of the Palm Beaches formerly, located at the Historic Jenkins House, member of St. Paul AME Church, and numerous other civic and social affiliations. She served on the Florida State Arts Council from 1999-2001. A very committed Board Member and past-Chair of the Palm Beach Cultural Council for over 21 years. Artists Showcase has had numerous art programs over the years including the City of Riviera Beach Library & Marina, St. George Episcopal Community Center and several other local sites. Presently, she is developing plans to re-brand and take her interest in the Arts to another level. Dr. Lowe attended the University of Florida, medical school at the Univ. of Minnesota, Internship at Howard University Hospital, Washington, D.C., and a Surgical Residency in Ophthalmology was obtained back in Minneapolis. Then she returned to Palm Beach County in order to practice medicine as a General & Comprehensive, Board Certified Ophthalmologist. Restoring sight to the young with spectacles; contact lenses and/or muscle surgery; cataract removal; laser surgery for glaucoma, diabetes and macula degeneration for the elderly, treating young and old alike has been at the pinnacle of rewards for Dr. Lowe. Giving the Commencement Address to the Graduating Seniors at Northwood University in 2000 was a great honor for Dr. Lowe, also. A recent lecture at the Norton Museum of Art on African American artists in Florida and Juneteenth. "Eyes is her Profession and Art is her Passion”, she is one of the four Chair Emeriti of the Palm Beach Cultural Council and has served at the state level on the Florida Arts Council. Her motto is “Live, Learn, Pass It On and Have Fun along the Way.” Dr. Lowe is often reminded of the importance of being vertically aligned in the universe, “God, Family and Business are the essential ingredients for a happy, healthy, balanced and successful life.” To honor her maternal grandparents, who were Georgia farm owners and entrepreneurs, she established in their names, “The Hampton & Isabella Brown Memorial Scholarship,” at the University of Minnesota.
