Description

Aquatic insects, also known as macroinvertebrates, play a key role in stream and lake health. They play an important role in cleaning the stream and a key part of the food web. Macroinvertebrates also allow scientist to know the water quality easily. Different groups of macroinvertebrates have different tolerances to pollution. Some groups need very clean water to survive, while some can live in very dirty water, while others are somewhere in between. Figuring out what macros are living in the stream allow scientist to quickly figure out the water quality. Join LGROW staff and volunteers from the Rogue River Watershed Partners to learn more about macroinvertebrates and sampling techniques. You will also get the chance to sample sites on the Rogue River to collect macroinvertebrates to determine the water quality throughout the river system!
