The 43rd Scholarship and Career Day Banquet recognizes the academic achievements of high school and college students. The men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Eta Lambda Chapter, along with college presidents and vice presidents, community leaders, and donors will gather to award thousands of dollars in scholarships.
Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, 11th President of Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC), will be our keynote speaker. Dr. Jones made history by becoming both the first woman and the first person of color to serve as President of OCCC which serves over 17,000 students. Dr. Jones' appointment also made Oklahoma history as she is the first African American female to serve as president of any institution of higher education in the state of Oklahoma that is not an Historically Black College and University. Dr. Jones is an inductee into the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame, she has been named Woman of the Year by 405 Magazine, The Journal Record, Perry Publishing and Broadcasting, and With Love OKC. She was named the 2021 National Mother of the Year, 2021 Oklahoma Mother of the Year and 2012 Oklahoma Mother of Achievement by American Mothers, Inc., among many noteworthy achievements.
