The Holly goes deep inside a gentrifying community in Denver, where a shooting case involving activist Terrance Roberts becomes a window into the political machinations of urban development and the city’s gang activity. The shooting happened at a peace rally in the “Holly,” an area that was once the center of Denver’s civil rights movement. Rubinstein, who grew up in Denver, began to report on the case and recognized that public reporting on what happened was not representative of what he was hearing in the neighborhood. Film is Not Rated. The film has garnered recognition at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival (Audience Choice Best Documentary), Santa Fe International Film Festival (Jury Award Best Documentary) and Denver Film Festival (Audience Award Documentary Feature), and as an official selection to the Breckenridge Film Festival, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and DOCtober.
